Meet Our Deputy Director
Megan Powell
DEPUTY DIRECTOR
Megan is the Deputy Director and co-founder of Time Served. Born and raised in Spartanburg, SC, Megan has always believed in the potential for a better South Carolina.
Megan graduated with honors in Political Science from Converse University in Spartanburg, South Carolina, in 2019. She went on to earn her J.D. from the Charleston School of Law in 2022, where she accumulated over 120 hours of pro bono service for indigent clients. During law school, Megan worked in the criminal justice and policy division of the ACLU, where she witnessed the cyclical nature of incarceration and its impact on individuals' ability to succeed post-release. Her commitment to public service earned her the Woman of the Year award, honoring her dedication to social justice and empowerment. She also gained experience clerking at a civil litigation firm in Greenville.
After law school, Megan was admitted to practice law in South Carolina and began her career as a Staff Attorney at Root & Rebound in South Carolina. There, she gained invaluable experience supporting individuals reentering the community after incarceration, as well as working with incarcerated clients on various issues, including parole representation and medical advocacy.
Today, as Deputy Director of Time Served, Megan is a leader in the organization, providing direct legal services to hundreds of clients and advocating for justice and reentry support.
Outside of work, Megan enjoys spending time with her three younger brothers and two goddaughters, who keep her on her toes. She is a passionate hockey fan (go Red Wings!), an amateur baker, and the resident jokester in her book club.
