Meet Our Chief Counsel of the Innocence Division

Susannah Ross is Chief Counsel of the Innocence Division at Time Served. Susannah works part-time at Time Served to oversee the organization’s actual innocence work, including case investigation and litigation, and supports the Executive Director in maintaining partnerships with pro bono counsel, law schools and universities, and innocence organizations nationwide.

 

Before Time Served, Susannah Ross was a partner in the Greenville law firm of Ross and Enderlin, PA. For more than 30 years her focus has been on criminal litigation and post-conviction relief for low-income South Carolinians. She discovered her interest in criminal defense in law school by clerking for famed death penalty litigator David Bruck. She then worked at the Greenville Public Defenders' office for six years before becoming a partner at Ross and Enderlin, PA. She spent the next twenty-five years representing clients with charges ranging from misdemeanors to murder. 

 

Susannah began taking Post Conviction Release (PCR) cases in 2002. She brings the insight from her direct criminal defense work into her post-conviction practice. While cross-examining fellow litigators is never fun, she likes that PCRs can provide an opportunity for second chances. She is excited to right wrongful convictions with Time Served and brings tremendous experience in the pathways most available to those seeking freedom through the courts.

 

Her work in system justice has led her to serve on the board of different nonprofit organizations, such as The Writer's Block Project, which is a nonprofit organization that hosts advanced creative writing classes to inmates in South Carolina's maximum security prisons and publishes literary collections of their work.
